SESSION #1 WITH MARK SUTCLIFFE | APRIL 8TH | 5-15KM | 10:00-1:30PM
MARK SUTCLIFFE:If you haven’t heard his name before you’ll begin to see it and hear it everywhere across Ottawa! Mark Sutcliffe is a public figure, talk show host, broadcaster, entrepreneur, author, columnist, volunteer, runner, and a huge staple in our Ottawa community! With a new book launching right around the corner, we’re excited to have Mark join us for an afternoon to hear more about his current projects and how he manages to balance all his hard work as an entrepreneur, community leader, fundraiser, philanthropist, and runner.
SESSION #2 WITH RAY ZAHAB | APRIL 22ND | 5-21KM | 9:30-1:30PM
RAY ZAHAB: Ray’s story is nothing short of remarkable. Zahab is a former cigarette-smoking slouch who’s become famous for becoming an ultramarathoner in his late 20s. He’s been pushing himself to the max by crossing the Sahara Desert and trekking through some of the most inhospitable environments in the world.
Ray is also the founder of the impossible2Possible (i2P) non-profit that takes young people on life-changing expeditions, while also using technology to allow other young people to follow along, back in the classrooms. Just returning from his latest adventure across Namibia and the Namib Desert on foot, approximately 1,850km, we’re excited to be inspired by Ray’s main message: we can truly exceed any limits we think we might have!
SESSION #3 WITH OUR PANEL OF EXPERT COACHES | MAY 6TH | 5-15KM | 10:00-1:30PM
SPEAKERS:We’re excited to host our second panel presentation of expert coaches from across Ottawa! Our first panel was a huge success and left us all feeling like 1 hour was nowhere near enough time to get through all the questions we had and amazing advice given by our knowledgeable pros! From training tips, gear, motivation, and nutrition share in the opportunity to ask questions and listen to real advise from experts in endurance and nutrition!
Last weekend we had the pleasure of leading an intimate yoga and beer pairing session for Ottawa’s community supporting Movember Ottawa. Movember Ottawa is the local chapter of the Movember Canada, the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round. They address some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Taking place on a snowy Sunday morning at Wallack Galleries, one of Canada’s oldest commercial art galleries, located in Ottawa’s Centretown, we stretched, we sipped, and we socialized by sharing personal stories on why were there choosing to support men’s health. After working our way through a moderately challenging asana practice, participants rose from child’s pose to find themselves with a healthy beer sample from Oakville’s Cameron’s Brewing to be mindfully experienced through a 5-minute beer meditation.
After the yoga portion of the festivities, it was great to mingle with participants over more delicious Cameron’s craft beer and learn what part of the yoga class stood out to them. For some, they were surprised at how challenging the yoga practice was, considering it was a social event, and for others that the beer meditation allowed them to think about how they apply mindfulness to other areas of life.
We were blessed to sample two awesome beers from Cameron’s Brewery: Captain’s Log Lager and their new Dark & Sticky IBA. The Lager was an easy choice to begin the sampling with due to its smooth refreshing taste which is soft on bitterness and intensely aromatic with scents of lavender, citrus, allspice, and brown sugar. Next, we socialized while sipping their India Brown Ale, Dark & Sticky, a hop-filled IPA with a well-balanced brown ale, combining the best of both worlds. Be sure to keep an eye out for both of these brews on tap around the city and in LCBO’s and grocery stores near you.
We are always happy to support our community with programming and especially happy when it can elevate a charity’s mission to raise funds and awareness for their cause. Congratulations to Will Bulmer and the rest of the Movember Ottawa team for doing such a great job working hard to elevate the goals of Movember Canada and for sharing their personal stories surrounding men’s health.
We would love to host future events at Wallack Galleries and already can’t wait to work with the fun team over at Cameron’s Brewing. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the cause and for the rest of you sad staches who missed it there are still a few Movember Ottawa events happening this November in Ottawa as well as all year round. Be sure to check them out and follow their progress over on their Facebook page here.
This past weekend was the sixth annualOttawa Beer Fest(formerly the Ottawa Craft Beer Festival) and it proved to be nothing less than action packed and full of friends, fun, and frustrating weather. Although we eventually were taken down by mother nature mid-day on Sunday by having our tent almost ripped away from us, Saturday saw enough action that our hearts were left toasty warm and a we now have a whole new book of friends!
Yoga on Tap had the pleasure of attending the festival to provide three different attractions: Private Yoga on Tap with Tooth and Nail Brewery beer tasting, operating a Beer Yoga Booth serving up local brews from Hintonburg’s Tooth and Nail, and providing the beer loving runners of the Ottawa Craft Beer Run with some post-run stretching and sipping!
WEEKEND TAP LIST:
STAMINA Belgian Inspired Session Ale 4.6%
VIM & VIGOR Pilsner 5.2%
TENACITY Pale Ale 5.5%
RABBLE-ROUSER India Pale Ale 6.8%
We started the Saturday session bright and early at 10AM with 48 souls pairing yoga and beer together under Aberdeen Pavilion before moving outdoors at 11AM to our Beer Yoga Booth serving up 4 samples of Tooth and Nail. Because the festival just opened at 11AM we got to get the party started at our tent with our gang of beer yogis. It was so great to get to chat with so many of our participants and even had a few people trying yoga for their first time ever with us. This happens all the time I’m sure but not everyone comes up to share their experience with us! Cheers to everyone who came out to open the festival with us this Saturday with Yoga on Tap! I hope you enjoyed the rest of the festival!
We had a big booth space beside the food trucks where one side was dedicated to selling samples of 4 Tooth and Nail beers with the other side hosting a lounge space for people to mingle, relax, or learn to mindfully experience their beer. It was on the opposite side of the main stage so that if people wanted some space to sip and interact with their beers or each other, they had a welcoming opportunity! We saw lots of different characters under our tent throughout the weekend and each one of them left a lasting impression 🙂
A huge thanks goes out to our OMazing festival volunteers who consisted of Run to Beer friends and new faces from out in the yoga/beer community of Ottawa! We couldn’t have done it without you! We are grateful to Ottawa Beer Festival for allowing us to run our unique programming at their annual event, to Tooth and Nail Brewery for selling us their product and trusting us to add value to their brand, to the Ottawa Craft Beer Run for having us host the post-run yoga, and to all of the festival staff and volunteers for your countless support throughout the weekend. Big cheers and thumbs up to you all!

We love encouraging people to make their mental and physical health a priority and to get active connecting with their communities. Our programming aims to keep festival goers grounded throughout the fun, fast-paced weekend with space and tools to mindfully experience each beer tasted, separate what makes each partner in the beer industry unique, learn why you like one type of beer over another, and enjoy time with friends and family fully!

We can’t wait to get active with you festival weekend! Make sure to get your tickets and to come say hi! Cheers & namaste! #yogaontap
